It’s estimated that Microsoft^© is adding 20,000 SharePoint users every day.   80% of Fortune 500 companies use it, and of all companies using it, 83% depend on it as their Document Management system.   But HOW, are they leveraging it? How are organizations implementing it in a way that facilitates good Records Management and how are they overcoming some of the obstacles?     Our round-table discussion will hit the hot points of each attendee and then have the group discuss how they are addressing those issues in their organization.  This is networking at its finest to solve actual SharePoint problems that each of us is facing in the workplace.

Implementing Effective Records Management Audits

Implementing a records management program is only half the equation; measuring its success is the other half. In this session, you will discover successful strategies for designing program controls and audit processes for your records management program. Can Electronic Records Really Be Managed?

The enormous gap between information governance (IG) policies and broad compliance with them, prompts a legitimate concern about whether electronic records can really be managed at all. In this presentation, the following questions are answered and, in the process, insights and solutions are shared for narrowing that compliance gap:

1. Are we asking too much of the business?
2. Is auto-classification ready for prime-time?
3. Why is it so hard to work with IT?
4. Must senior management be involved?
5. Can I really make this happen?

Learning Objectives

1. Define a practical “ask” of the business that encourages user compliance with IG policies
2. Analyze requirements for automatic collection and classification of records and related information

Organizations are moving to the cloud, some faster than others. This presentation will take a look at how organizations are moving to the Cloud and discuss the benefits and risks of using Cloud-based systems. The speaker will bring first-hand experience of working with Google Apps for Work (now, “G Suite”) as well as other applications and business processes that were moved to platforms in the cloud. Cloud computing introduces risks into the organization, but most can be managed or mitigated.

An article on Cloud Computing, “Another Walk in the Cloud” was published in ARMA’s Information Management Magazine’s September / October, 2016 issue.

Patrick J. Cunningham, CISM, FAI has over 30 years of experience combining records management, information governance, and information security. Pat recently left Motorola Solutions, Inc. after nine years as Senior Director, Information Governance, Risk and Compliance. He has prior experience with employers in the non-profit, government, consulting and financial services sectors. Pat holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Quincy University in Quincy, IL and a Master of Arts degree in Public History from Loyola University of Chicago. Pat became a Certified Information Security Manager in 2016. He received designation as a Fellow of ARMA International in 2009. A member of ARMA International for nearly 30 years, Pat has held ARMA leadership roles at the local and International levels and is a regular chapter and Conference speaker.

Records Management in the News

Think poor record keeping practices can only result in court sanctions and fines? Think again. Using recent stories of actual companies in the news, Certified Record Manager Martin Susuc will highlight the real life consequences of poor records management. Stories will range from the withholding of millions of dollars in tax refunds to wrongful & unintended births. Mr. Susec will break down the stories, identify and analyze the records retention issues and standards at play and highlight where the companies went wrong.
Speaker’s Bio: Martin Susec, CRM, works within the Discovery Management Unit (DMU) of the Litigation Practice Group (LPG) of Nationwide where he advises and supports fellow attorneys and business units, including the Records & Information Management Unit (RIM), on the proper management of information within the enterprise.  In that capacity, he handles a variety of electronic discovery and information management matters and proactively assists in reducing corporate litigation costs and risks.  Martin researches and consults on new and proposed laws, standards, or regulatory trends within the field of information management and also identifies risks presented by proposed actions of the business.  Upon request, Martin also advises, drafts, and negotiates agreements between Nationwide and its vendors regarding information management.

Mr. Susec graduated from The Ohio State University College of Business with a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and International Business, and the University of  Akron School of Law and College of Business (MBA) . After law school, Martin worked for ten years at the Ohio Attorney General’s Office where he specialized in public records law.

This impressive facility contains the largest collection of American Jewish documents in the world.  Founded in 1947, the archives was established by Dr. Jacob Rader Marcus in the aftermath of the European Holocaust when American Jews inherited a primary responsibility of preserving the continuity of Jewish life and learning for future generations.  Today the AJA houses over ten million pages of documentation. It contains nearly 8,000 linear feet of archives, manuscripts, nearprint materials, photographs, audio and video tape, microfilm, and genealogical materials.
